Chairman's Comments

Hello Friends and CF Colleagues,

I think we can all agree that it has been a wonderful year nationally for the Conservative Party; the contrast between an incompetent government and our own party which is increasingly becoming stronger and bringing out the policies and setting out the vision which people want is astounding. Gordon Brown’s promise of change was nothing but hot air, while it is becoming ever clearer to Britain that the only real change can come from David Cameron and the Conservatives.

But now is not the time to relax, as tempting as that may be because this government seems to do a good enough job of destroying itself without our help. No, we must work ever harder, build an even greater base of support, because when Brown (eventually) calls an election we will be in the best position to rescue Britain from sinking deeper in to social, political, environmental and economic trouble. Newcastle-under-Lyme and Keele University Conservative Future (NKCF) can be part of this, and we all need to make the extra effort because we can not risk another four to five years of a Labour Government. This will mean NKCF will not only have to work with other students, spreading and setting out our vision of Britain, but also into the local area.

Since the start of the academic year NKCF has made its first real attempt to reach out to the young people of Newcastle-under-Lyme. We now have our first members from the local area as opposed to NKCF being entirely made up of Keele students and alumni. This is an exciting time for NKCF, and I feel that our best times lie ahead, and the following months NKCF will truly make an impact at Keele and in Newcastle. We have also launched our Blog. This online presence will allow the whole word to see what NKCF is getting up to, but also is a means for all members to share thoughts and opinions and hopefully be a great source of political and topical debate.

If you want to be part of this movement for positive Conservative change, then you’ll need to join up. All are welcome to our meetings to see how we operate, and I and the rest of the Executive Committee are more than happy to answer questions. So please don’t hesitate to get in contact. You’ll be glad you did (especially because you will get to come to our fantastic social events.)

I hope to see you soon.

Joseph Kiernan
